The British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) has revealed that the first-ever BFBS Pro League Grand Final will be hosted at the University of Staffordshire.
The culminating event, scheduled for September 28th, will see the esports league, designed for UK armed forces members, determine its initial champion.
Eight teams will participate in Rocket League, competing for the title in the league that began in May, open to UK armed forces members and the surrounding community aged 13 and older.
In addition to gaming PCs and in-game credits, the league provides a total prize fund of £15,000.
“The level of passion and skill displayed has been remarkable,” commented Robert Wylie, Head of BFBS Esports. “Whether participants are experienced players or new to gaming, this league demonstrates a substantial demand for esports within the forces.”
“The Grand Final will highlight not only the exceptional talent of these competitors but also the positive impact of gaming on the armed forces community.”
BFBS’s initiative to establish an esports league represents another advancement for the UK’s Armed Forces in expanding its presence within the esports sector. Previously, the Ministry of Defence collaborated with British Esports to enhance digital proficiency among military personnel.
Military Services And Esports
Over the past few years, military branches worldwide have increasingly used esports to organise various activities and launch numerous projects. Earlier this year, the Royal Navy’s HMS Prince of Wales introduced an esports facility intended for tournament use as part of a larger collaborative effort with the national organisation, British Esports.
Within the United States, the US Army has established partnerships with multiple organisations and tournaments in recent years. In 2023, it collaborated with Complexity while also sponsoring the Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup.
