The NFL has imposed a one-game suspension without pay on Buffalo Bills defensive back Sam Franklin Jr. for allegedly spitting at another player during the recent 33-30 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
The league reported that this incident transpired with 1:32 remaining in the fourth quarter after the Raiders successfully executed an extra point.
Franklin has refuted these allegations and intends to challenge the decision, as per WGR550’s Sal Capaccio.
If the suspension stands, Franklin will not participate in the Bills’ Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Buffalo will have a bye week during Week 7. He will be permitted to return for the Monday night contest against the Minnesota Vikings on November 9.
Franklin is the second Buffalo player this week to face a suspension due to a spitting incident involving the Raiders. The NFL announced earlier that C.J. Gardner-Johnson will also be sidelined for a game for spitting on the ground in the direction of Raiders tight end Brock Bowers’ feet.
Gardner-Johnson, who was removed from the game, acknowledged his actions post-game, stating, “I’ve got to be a better player. I’ve got to be a better vet.”
