The Texas Rangers shared late Monday that Bruce Bochy will no longer be the team’s manager, as both parties “have reached an understanding for his managerial duties with the organization to conclude.”
“Bruce Bochy stands as one of the most accomplished managers in baseball history, securing a lasting place in the hearts of Ranger enthusiasts by clinching the franchise’s inaugural World Series title in 2023,” stated Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young. “Bochy infused our club with distinction and honor upon his return to the dugout, and we will consistently value being a part of his Hall of Fame legacy. Our appreciation extends to all he has contributed to the organization in recent seasons, and we hope for his continued influence on the Rangers moving forward.”
The team indicated that an advisory position within the front office has been presented to him.
Bochy’s tenure with the Rangers concluded following a lackluster 2025 season where Texas posted an 81-81 record, settling for third in the American League West. This followed a 2024 season when the Rangers, on the heels of their 2023 World Series victory, ended at 78-84 and were excluded from the postseason. During his three seasons with Texas, Bochy led the team to a 249-237 record, highlighted by the franchise’s only World Series championship.
In total, the 70-year-old Bochy holds a managerial record of 2,252-2,266 (.498) across 28 seasons in Major League Baseball. His 28 years in the managerial role also encompass extended periods with the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. Before his World Series win with Texas, Bochy steered the Giants to three championship titles in 2010, 2012, and 2014. As a four-time World Series victor and ranking sixth in all-time wins, Bochy is widely expected to gain entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame in recognition of his managerial achievements.
Those same Giants are searching for a new manager after dismissing Bob Melvin earlier on Monday.
Concerning the Rangers, Skip Schumaker, previously with the Miami Marlins and currently part of the Texas front office, is a potential in-house candidate to succeed Bochy.
