After contracting Covid-19 in February, Breakwell was unable to compete for nearly three months.
She was admitted to hospital and, due to complications related to her existing neurological condition known as spinal syrinx, even experienced temporary vision loss.
However, following a series of victories in recent months, her global ranking has dramatically improved.
Sarah, Breakwell’s mother, commented that her daughter’s challenging year has ultimately demonstrated her unwavering resilience.
“The most important aspect is her relentless drive to persist and continue moving ahead,” Sarah elaborated.
With the season drawing to a close for Breakwell, she now has the opportunity to contemplate her achievements and arrange a well-earned post-season celebration.
“I’m exploring the possibility of taking a vacation,” she revealed. “Visiting Disney in Florida would be fantastic, but we’ll need to assess our financial situation first!”
Regarding the upcoming year, she shared, “My aspiration is to participate in a Grand Slam, but I’m also generally excited about playing more tennis. The future is uncertain, so we’ll have to wait and see what unfolds.”
