The Cleveland Browns are deeply immersed in their training camp activities, prominently featuring their quarterback contest to determine their Week 1 starter. While this competition dominates conversations, a surprising retirement announcement came from a Browns veteran.
Linebacker Jordan Hicks revealed his decision to retire from the NFL via social media.
“After dedicating 23 years to football, I am officially retiring from the NFL,” Hicks shared in a social media statement. “Football has enriched my life beyond measure, providing me with purpose, discipline, camaraderie, and a platform to influence others. Most importantly, it revealed my identity beyond the game. I conclude this chapter with heartfelt appreciation for every lesson, obstacle, and triumph. I am proud of my accomplishments on the field, but even more so of the person I’ve become as a result. To my teammates, coaches, fans, and especially my family, thank you for your constant support throughout this journey. I eagerly anticipate this next phase of life and all it holds. I retire with peace, knowing I gave football my all, and the best is yet to come.”
Hicks accumulated 952 tackles throughout his 10 seasons and contributed to the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl victory in 2017. This development now positions Devin Bush as a likely starter, and almost assures rookie Carson Schwesinger a starting role.
