Bryan Braman, a former NFL athlete who achieved Super Bowl success with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, has received a diagnosis of a unique and forceful cancer.
Sean Stellato, Braman’s longtime representative, communicated that the 38-year-old is currently ‘in the midst of a significant battle.’
“At Stellato Sports, Bryan Braham has consistently represented fortitude, adaptability, and leadership,” Stellato conveyed to ClicktoHouston.com. “He is a foundation and a representation of the underdog mentality. Currently, while dealing with cancer, he displays these attributes more than ever before. If I were to choose someone I know to triumph over cancer, it would be Bryan Braman, who I’ve always considered as family. He’s in the biggest challenge of his life. Please offer your support to Bryan and keep him in your thoughts.”
Williams Jones, a friend of Braman’s, initiated a GoFund me campaign to aid in covering some of the medical expenses that Braman has accumulated in recent months. According to the fundraising platform, Braman recently underwent CAR T-cell therapy in Seattle.
“Bryan has been required to begin chemotherapy treatments tailored for the treatment program he is participating in,” Jones detailed on the GoFundMe page. “Bryan has been subjected to several surgical interventions. The main difficulty has been Bryan’s inability to recuperate from these interventions due to a reduced immune system resulting from all the treatments. By the time he was able to recover sufficiently to resume chemotherapy, the cancer had progressed at an accelerated rate and is now developing around his essential organs.”
Jones emphasized that Braman “has not surrendered” and is “exploring other potential trial treatment initiatives.”
Braman has returned to his family residence in Seattle. The GoFundMe campaign for Braman had amassed nearly $50,000 by Friday afternoon (July 4), exceeding the initial target of $25,000. A substantial donation came from JJ Watt, who contributed $10,000 to the cause.
Braman and Watt were teammates in Houston for three years, commencing when they were both rookies in 2011. While Watt was a first-round selection, Braman entered the NFL as an unlikely prospect to secure a spot on the Texans’ roster, signing as an undrafted free agent. He not only secured a place on the team but also spent three seasons in Houston (2011-13) before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014.
During his tenure with the Eagles, Braman participated in 51 games across three and a half seasons. The final game of his career occurred in February 2018 when the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots, 41-33, in Super Bowl LII. Braman registered one special teams tackle in the victory.
Several of Braman’s former teammates – aside from Watt – have contributed to his cause, including Duane Brown and Brian Cushing, both of whom played alongside him in Houston. Additionally, numerous former Eagles teammates have donated, including Rasul Douglas, Brent Celek, and Emmanuel Acho.
