Sources indicate that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have terminated the employment of offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard, quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis, and special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.
Grizzard represented the fourth offensive coordinator under head coach Todd Bowles within a four-season span, and given Bowles’ secure position, he is now tasked with finding a fifth.
This season saw a significant decline in the Buccaneers’ offensive performance, plummeting from the third spot league-wide in total yards during 2024, averaging 399.5 yards per contest, to the 21st position in the recently concluded season, with an average of 320.4 yards per game. While the franchise secured four consecutive NFC South divisional championships and reached the postseason each year since 2020, they have only managed a single playoff victory since Bowles assumed the head coaching role in 2022.
Across Bowles’ four-season tenure at the helm, the Tampa team has amassed a win-loss record of 35-33.
From the time Bowles joined the organization in 2019 as the defensive coordinator, the Buccaneers have employed Byron Leftwich, Dave Canales, Liam Coen, and Grizzard in the capacity of offensive coordinator. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, potential candidates for consideration include Nate Scheelhaase, the Rams’ passing game coordinator, and Todd Monken, the Ravens’ offensive coordinator.
Grizzard initially became part of the Buccaneers in 2024 as the passing game coordinator, subsequently ascending to the offensive coordinator position after Coen’s move to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Lewis, who previously played sparingly across seven NFL games as a journeyman, began his tenure in 2020 as an intern, subsequently advancing to an offensive assistant position. The subsequent season saw his promotion to assistant receivers coach, prior to him undertaking the responsibilities of quarterbacks coach in 2023, where he collaborated extensively with Baker Mayfield during the latter’s three years in Tampa.
McGaughey’s appointment occurred in February 2024, following his previous engagements in the identical capacity with the New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Jets, dating back to 2014.
