Looking ahead to 2026, Emma Raducanu is aiming to cultivate an improved fundamental skill set, empowering her to command matches more consistently and place less emphasis on her opponent’s strengths.
The leading British female tennis player has commenced a month-long pre-season training regimen in Barcelona, guided by coach Francisco Roig.
Recent training sessions in London have primarily concentrated on strength and conditioning within the gym, as the 2021 US Open champion recuperates from minor bone bruising in her right foot, which prompted her withdrawal from two exhibition matches in the United States.
This season marked the first time in the world number 29’s career that she participated in 50 matches, and she is eagerly anticipating the contributions Roig can make to her overall performance.
“He intends for me to concentrate significantly on establishing a superior version of myself and a more solid base level,” the 23-year-old stated.
“It’s an approach that I don’t believe I’ve specifically undertaken before. I’ve generally adopted a more tactical approach, focusing on exploiting any weaknesses my opponents may possess and employing a highly resourceful style.”
“And it proves effective. However, the ideal situation is one in which you don’t need to dwell excessively on the other players – you can simply enter the court, execute your own game plan, and be confident in your ability to secure victory.”
“He’s endeavoring to enhance the overall quality, not necessarily by altering my physical capabilities, but rather by refining my technique, timing, and movement.”
“I believe that possessing the ability to dictate the course of a match to a greater extent is a personal objective, so that I am not compelled to expend as much energy running.”
