Bulls G Anfernee Simons out indefinitely with wrist fracture.

The Chicago Bulls’ recently acquired guard, Anfernee Simons, is expected to be unavailable for an undetermined period.

Scans of Simons’ left wrist indicated a flare-up of a prior fracture sustained during the team’s defeat by the Detroit Pistons last Saturday. The exact duration of Simons’ absence remains unknown.

Simons departed the Bulls’ 126-110 loss against the Pistons on Saturday, initially attributed by the club to a sprain, and he did not return for the second half. Subsequent scans, however, uncovered the fracture, which coach Donovan stated originated from an earlier injury Simons incurred during his tenure with the Boston Celtics.

Donovan mentioned, as reported by The Associated Press, that “The break hadn’t fully mended, and consulting with a hand specialist, they believed that once the discomfort diminished, he would be cleared to resume playing.” He added, “The previous instance occurred during his Boston training camp. It lasted roughly a week to ten days.”

Simons was transferred to the Bulls prior to the trade deadline this month as part of a trade involving center Nikola Vučević. He has participated in six matchups for the Bulls, averaging 15.2 points and three assists since his arrival in Chicago.

Currently, Simons is playing in his eighth professional season. The Portland Trail Blazers drafted him as the 24th overall pick in 2018, and he spent his initial seven seasons there before being moved to Boston in a transaction for Jrue Holiday last June.

As of Tuesday’s matchup with the Charlotte Hornets, the Bulls’ standing was 24 wins and 34 losses. They are currently experiencing a nine-game skid and have suffered defeat in 12 of their previous 13 contests. With 23 regular season games remaining, they hold the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference, appearing set to miss the postseason for the fourth consecutive season.
