CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Marcus Allen, a second-year forward for the Miami team, has received a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and will be absent for the rest of the current playing period, as confirmed by the institution on Friday.
According to the Hurricanes organization and Allen’s relatives, the diagnosis came after standard health examinations. Allen, who hails from Miami and commenced his collegiate athletic journey at Missouri prior to his transfer to the Hurricanes this year, recorded an average of 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds across 19 minutes of play per game during the current season.
His regimen of chemotherapy treatments has already commenced.
“Marcus is an outstanding individual and a valuable colleague, and our commitment is to provide every possible assistance to him and his wonderful family during this challenging period,” stated Jai Lucas, the Miami coach. “Marcus consistently infuses our team environment with resilience and altruism, and these inherent traits will undoubtedly aid him in overcoming this ailment. Our whole athletic division will maintain its unwavering backing for Marcus as he prioritizes his well-being.”
Allen was recognized as a unanimous four-star prospect upon graduating high school, guiding Miami Norland High to a state title in 2024 with averages of 22.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per contest. He was selected to participate in the Allen Iverson Classic All-American event and played a role in AZ Compass Prep reaching the championship match at the Geico Nationals in 2023.
“We extend our gratitude to all who have offered their thoughts and prayers during what is an exceptionally trying period for our household,” Allen’s family conveyed in a public announcement. “We express our thanks to God for His perpetual Grace, Compassion, and Blessing. We eagerly await the manifestation of a miraculous recovery. We remain steadfast in our BELIEF.”
