According to Julian Cash, achieving the year-end world number one men’s doubles ranking alongside Lloyd Glasspool feels “surreal,” marking them as the first all-British duo to accomplish this feat.
Cash and Glasspool secured this distinction with a triumph over the German team of Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz at the ATP Finals held in Turin, which represented their 59th victory of the year.
Despite an initial defeat in their first group match at the season-ending event, the Wimbledon champions rebounded to defeat Putz and Krawietz with a score of 7-6 (11-9) 6-2.
Their schedule includes a final match against the Spanish-Argentine pairing of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, where the victor will progress to the semi-finals.
Following their victory inside Inalpi Arena, Cash and Glasspool were honored with a trophy presentation.
“This year has been absolutely wild, without a doubt,” Cash remarked.
“We dedicated considerable effort during the off-season, and it requires a collective effort from numerous individuals to reach this level.
“We’ve accomplished numerous milestones this year, and standing here now feels incredibly surreal.”
Glasspool commented: “This year has been truly exceptional. We’ve invested a tremendous amount of work this year, and it wouldn’t have been achievable without our mutual dedication and hard work.”
