The Magpies could emerge as strong contenders for the league title if they successfully acquire a group of highly-rated Premier League forwards, according to a leading football figure.
The Tyneside club have yet to secure a victory in their initial two Premier League matches this season and are heavily involved in ongoing discussions surrounding Alexander Isak’s future.
Reportedly, the Swedish international is interested in joining the reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool, who recently triumphed over Newcastle at their home ground.
Potential Title Pursuit for Newcastle – Contingent on Securing Premier League Trio
It’s been suggested that Isak attended the game at the stadium, watching from a private suite alongside his relatives, following a discussion with club chairman and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan earlier that day, where he conveyed his position.
Reportedly, the player feels that assurances given by individuals in Newcastle’s leadership have not been honored, and he believes his bond with the club has been irreparably damaged.
Consequently, Newcastle has been actively seeking replacements for the Swedish player for several weeks to facilitate a potential record-breaking transfer to Liverpool. Newcastle’s willingness to part with the striker, who recorded 27 goals across all competitions the previous season, is contingent upon securing one or two replacements.
Premier League talents such as Yoane Wissa, Jorgen Strand Larsen, and Nicolas Jackson have all been mentioned as potential targets for a move to St. James’ Park this summer. Newcastle reportedly submitted two offers for Wissa and two approaches for the Wolves’ Scandinavian attacker. However, all attempts have been unsuccessful to date.
Throughout the transfer window, Brentford has maintained a firm stance, determined to retain Wissa unless their specified value is met. Likewise, Wolves are equally intent on keeping Strand Larsen, who spent the previous season on loan at Molineux before completing a £23 million transfer from Celta Vigo at the start of the current summer.
During a discussion on Sky Sports News, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony stated, “If they [Newcastle] conclude the window with Wissa, Strand Larsen, and potentially Nicolas Jackson, if they manage to bring in those three players by the end of the window, Newcastle could contend for the title this year.”
In the opinion of FourFourTwo, it is an audacious statement given Newcastle’s performance at the beginning of the season and the challenge of balancing Premier League commitments with a return to the Champions League. However, the seasoned football executive is known for expressing strong opinions.
Newcastle’s attacking options are expected to be enhanced before the transfer deadline, but according to local reports, this will likely involve the addition of only one player from the aforementioned trio, rather than two or three.

While Wissa is actively pushing for a move to the northeast, Strand Larsen is also reportedly receptive to a transfer. However, he will not create issues for Wolves if his valuation is not met.
Newcastle is in urgent need of players following several injuries sustained during their 3-2 defeat against Liverpool, in addition to the ongoing Isak situation.
