Chase Hooper returns at UFC Seattle vs. son of Canadian MMA pioneer

Chase Hooper is poised to re-enter the octagon for a showdown on the UFC Seattle fight card, where he will face a former Bellator MMA participant. This upcoming bout signifies Hooper’s inaugural contest in his home state after a significant period away. Lance Gibson Jr. will be the opponent standing opposite Hooper in the cage on March 28th, at Climate Pledge Arena, during UFC Fight Night 271.

This engagement will mark Hooper’s first competition within the state since 2018. While Hooper originates from Washington state, Gibson Jr. was born specifically in Seattle, despite the Canadian fighter identifying British Columbia as his current residence. The professional MMA fighter, with a 9-2 record, is set to make his second walk to the octagon, following a recent split decision loss in his UFC debut against King Green just a few weeks prior.

Conversely, Hooper is also aiming to regain momentum after a defeat to Alexander Hernandez at UFC 319 last August, an outcome that interrupted a five-fight winning streak he had maintained.

A Look at the Chase Hooper vs. Lance Gibson Jr. Bout at UFC Seattle

Chase Hooper has been competing in the UFC since December 2019, affording him greater organizational familiarity than Gibson Jr., who debuted with the promotion in December 2025.

Lance Gibson Jr. is the son of a foundational figure within the Canadian mixed martial arts landscape, making the Gibsons only the third father-son pair in UFC history to have both contended in the octagon. Gibson Sr. participated in both UFC 24 and 29 in the year 2000, achieving an even win-loss record across his two encounters.

The premier attraction for UFC Seattle is slated to feature an ascending 185-pound contender, Joe Pyfer, clashing with Israel Adesanya, a former multiple-time UFC middleweight champion. Also included is a pivotal rematch between Alexa Grasso and Maycee Barber in the flyweight category, while Valter Walker vs. Marcin Tybura contributes to the card in a heavyweight matchup.

Last year witnessed the UFC’s return to Seattle for the first time in over twelve years, with the Henry Cejudo vs. Song Yadong contest headlining that event last February.
