Chelsea’s newest acquisition, Facundo Buonanotte, is already facing setbacks at Chelsea.
The gifted 20-year-old, who finalized his transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion on the last day of the window, is another addition to the Blues, who are known for their activity in the transfer market.
In all, Enzo Maresca has brought in 10 fresh faces this summer, with Buonanotte being the most recent.
Facundo Buonanotte already sidelined by Chelsea
Following the completion of his temporary move to Stamford Bridge, the Argentina international discussed his aspirations for his time at Chelsea in the upcoming season.
During his interview with the club’s media, the 20-year-old expressed his eagerness for the chance to compete in European competitions, an opportunity that now seems to have lasted only 72 hours.
“This represents a significant advancement in my career,” he stated on Chelsea’s official website. “I am genuinely delighted to be here and prepared to contribute as much as possible to the team and the staff. I am confident that it will be a successful season.
“I will, of course, have the chance to participate in the Champions League for the first time, which will be a formidable challenge. I am eagerly anticipating this season, and I hope that I can contribute to the club achieving its objectives.”
The 20-year-old has not been included in Chelsea’s 23-man squad for the UEFA Champions League, meaning he will be absent for at least their eight group stage matches.
Fellow summer recruits Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, Estevao, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato and Joao Pedro were all named in the squad, but there was no spot for the former Leicester City loanee.
Brighton’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, was questioned about the reasons for sending the player out on loan once more, with Champions League participation being a key factor in the decision.
“This represents a fantastic chance for Facundo to gain consistent experience in both the Premier League and Champions League this season, which will further support his ongoing development,” he commented. The German’s words now seem misguided, considering Chelsea’s choice to exclude the Argentina international from their European squad.
The reasoning behind this decision can only be provided by Maresca, the first-team manager. It is worth remembering that Cole Palmer was initially omitted from Chelsea’s squad for the UEFA Conference League League Phase matches last season, but he was later added to the squad once they progressed to the knockout stages.
Buonanotte will be aiming to impress in the Premier League and cup competitions to earn his place in the squad. However, one thing is evident: the young player appears to have a significant challenge ahead of him.
