Chiefs’ Simmons Nearing Return, Says ESPN

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A newcomer to the offensive line, Josh Simmons, selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the initial round of the 2025 draft, should be back with the squad in the near future, according to sources.

Since the Chiefs’ victory over the Detroit Lions on October 12, Simmons has been away, sitting out the previous two weeks of training due to a “family matter.” Simmons is unlikely to participate in Monday night’s contest against the Washington Commanders.

Simmons departed shortly before the Lions game to return to San Diego for what the team described as a personal matter.

“Communication exists, and everything is encouraging,” coach Andy Reid commented Thursday regarding Simmons’ situation. “There are no issues, he’s attending to family matters. He’s just resolving things. That’s paramount. When facing this, that’s what you address.

“His communication has been exemplary.”

An opportune time for Simmons’ return to the Chiefs might be in early November during the team’s break.

Since his absence, Kansas City has utilized Jaylon Moore, a four-year veteran at left tackle, who arrived as the team’s primary free-agent addition through a two-year, $30 million contract (including $21.2 million guaranteed) for the starting left tackle position. Moore’s role shifted after the Chiefs drafted Simmons as the final pick of the draft’s opening round.

The Kansas City offense has maintained a strong performance despite Simmons’ absence. Spearheaded by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs have averaged 31.5 points in their last four outings.
