Although the seasons for both the Major League and Minor League have concluded, it doesn’t imply that players are not evolving or failing to catch the attention of the front office.
One prospect for the Cleveland Guardians making strides with his performance in the Arizona Fall League is the team’s No. 9 overall prospect, Welbyn Francisca.
Francisca isn’t merely participating in the Arizona Fall League; he has been truly excelling. There is a case to be made that the 20-year-old is beginning to distinguish himself against his Minor League peers.
In the game on Thursday evening, Francisca notched two more walks alongside two hits, one of which was a two-run home run. This stat line has become just another typical outing since his arrival in the desert.
The Guardians prospect currently holds the top position in the league with a 1.198 OPS, complemented by his .420/.488/.710 slash line. He has accumulated a total of 10 extra-base hits (six doubles and four home runs) over 69 at-bats. Francisca has achieved this while maintaining a relatively low strikeout rate of 20 percent.
Francisca has remained on fire since his impressive start and continues to lead the league with 29 hits.
To provide a bit more perspective on how remarkable Francisca’s performance has been, he has already driven in 28 runs at the midway point of the Fall League. The last player to register that many RBIs was Bryson Stott of the Philadelphia Phillies, who tallied 31 RBIs in 26 games in 2021.
This performance has earned Francisca a place on the Fall Stars roster, with the All-Star game scheduled for this weekend. There is also no doubt that he is the leading candidate for the league MVP when the season concludes.
Of course, it’s important to consider that these statistics are not being posted against current Major League talent, so they should be viewed within that context. However, Francisca is excelling in the desert following a very strong Minor League campaign.
Francisca spent most of the 2026 season at High-A, recording a batting line of .277/.356/.538 across 65 games. At the tail end of the season, he was elevated to Double-A, where he had six hits in 20 at-bats with the RubberDucks.
Clearly, things are coming together for the 20-year-old, and his impressive Fall League numbers are just a glimpse of what Francisca may accomplish in 2027; it won’t be long before he finds himself in Columbus. After that, the Guardians’ top prospects will be just one step away from making their MLB debut.
