Colts TE Tyler Warren Suffers Groin Injury

On Wednesday, head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren is currently nursing a groin injury.

Although Warren had to exit the practice field due to the ailment, he later came back to observe the remainder of the workout alongside his teammates, which sparked speculation regarding the severity of the issue.

While the head coach did verify that the sophomore tight end is suffering from a groin problem, he declined to offer details on the extent of the damage or whether it might keep Warren out of action for the season opener. Indianapolis is scheduled to face the Ravens at home in Week 1.

This year, Warren is anticipated to take on expanded responsibilities within the Indianapolis offense. While the ground game will primarily revolve around star running back Jonathan Taylor, Warren is slated to serve as both a key blocker and a major target for quarterback Daniel Jones in the air attack.

Selected as the 14th overall draft choice in 2025, Warren appeared in all 17 contests during his rookie campaign, earning 12 starts. He successfully hauled in 76 of the 112 passes thrown his way, accumulating 817 receiving yards and crossing the goal line four times.

With this setback, Warren joins a growing list of key offensive players for the Colts who are battling injuries this summer. Wideout Alec Pierce, who agreed to a lucrative contract extension during the offseason, underwent ankle surgery prior to camp. As Indianapolis prepares for its second exhibition game, Pierce remains sidelined and has not practiced.

The absence of Pierce motivated the franchise to secure veteran free agent Keenan Allen, whose presence now offers valuable depth to the receiving corps should Warren be unavailable for the start of the regular season.

Allen played for the Los Angeles Chargers last year, participating in all 17 regular-season matchups while recording 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

The exact timeline for Warren’s recovery remains uncertain. His absence could be limited to just a handful of practice sessions, or it might extend into the opening weeks of the season if the strain is more serious. Although the issue currently appears to be minor, his progress will be closely watched over the coming days.
