Cormier joins Boxing vs. MMA debate after Stevenson’s remarks.

UFC Hall of Fame inductee Daniel Cormier has joined the ranks of past and present UFC personalities in responding to boxer Shakur Stevenson’s comments.

Esteemed boxing athlete Shakur Stevenson stirred controversy recently with remarks concerning Mixed Martial Arts and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. During a broadcast with influencer Adin Ross, where he was accompanied by Terence Crawford, Stevenson openly challenged Ilia Topuria and asserted the dominance of boxing over MMA.

This immediately provoked a forceful retort from UFC welterweight Joaquin Buckley, who declared he could ‘defeat’ Stevenson or Crawford in an unrestricted combat scenario. Buckley is recognized as a premier striking specialist in contemporary MMA.

Now, Daniel Cormier, a distinguished UFC Hall of Famer renowned for his exceptional wrestling skills and notable striking prowess throughout his illustrious career, has weighed in.

Daniel Cormier: Boxing ‘Simply Not Enjoyable’ When Contrasted with UFC and MMA

In a video recently posted on his YouTube channel, Cormier supported Buckley’s stance regarding Stevenson’s provocative statements about MMA.

“Joaquin Buckley’s assertion was accurate. It needn’t be boxing, given that, truthfully, major bouts of the caliber seen historically no longer occur,” Cormier articulated.

“My desire is for boxing to resemble its form in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Insufficient significant spectacles exist to transport us back to the eras of Ali’s or Tyson’s contests. When the ‘four kings’ engaged in combat with one another. During Lennox Lewis’s reign as heavyweight titleholder, circumstances were distinct then.

“Canelo’s match against Terence Crawford conveyed the impression of a momentous occasion. However, candidly, I don’t become overly enthused by these boxing encounters until emerging talents strive for knockouts akin to those historical figures,” Cormier proceeded. “It’s simply not as entertaining, whereas with the UFC, it offers greater enjoyment, thrills, and overall superiority. Commendations to Joaquin Buckley for highlighting that situation, as he was right to do so. That is simply the unvarnished truth.”
