Reports indicate that KaVontae Turpin, a prominent player for the Dallas Cowboys, was taken into custody in Allen, Texas, on Sunday morning due to allegations related to weapons and marijuana. This information is based on Collin County court documents accessed by CBS News. Official records show Turpin’s arrest was linked to charges of marijuana possession and the unlawful carrying of a weapon.
The athlete, age 28, recently finalized a three-year agreement worth $18 million with the Cowboys in March. This contract positioned him as the highest-compensated special teams player in the National Football League. Turpin demonstrated exceptional performance in 2024, leading the league with 904 return yards from 27 kicks, which included a touchdown. Additionally, he recorded 187 yards from 18 punt returns, also scoring a touchdown. His contributions as a wide receiver were noteworthy as well, with 31 receptions for 420 yards and two touchdowns. His achievements led to First Team All-Pro recognition and his second invitation to the Pro Bowl.
In 2019, Turpin was not selected in the NFL draft following his time at TCU, partly due to concerns regarding his behavior off the field. He subsequently participated in The Spring League and the European League of Football. Later, in 2022, the New Jersey Generals chose him in the USFL Draft. During his time in the USFL, he distinguished himself as a top player, showcasing talent in both receiving and returning, ultimately earning the MVP award after leading the league in receiving yards (540), yards after catch (316), and punt return average (15.3). This successful season led to a contract with the Cowboys. In his debut NFL season, he received Pro Bowl recognition for his performance, which included 508 yards from 21 kick returns and 303 yards from 29 punt returns.
