Terence Crawford has stated he would reject any offer to end his retirement for a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
During a discussion with Adin Ross, Crawford dismissed the concept of competing against the 48-year-old ex-champion, labeling it pointless and irrelevant from a competitive standpoint.
“No way, I wouldn’t compete against him,” Crawford declared. “Floyd is advanced in age; his career is over.”
In recent weeks, talk of a potential Crawford versus Mayweather contest has emerged purely as a speculative high-earning event, not as a practical proposition. No discussions have been reported between the promoters or agents associated with either boxer.
Crawford declared his retirement earlier this year, having secured the undisputed super middleweight title by defeating Canelo Alvarez, thus concluding his career with a victory over a highly recognized current figure in boxing.
Mayweather’s last official professional contest was in 2017, and his recent in-ring appearances have been restricted to exhibition matches.
Crawford would face significant criticism if he opted to unretire for a bout against Mayweather. Nevertheless, given his alternatives, he possesses other lucrative fight opportunities, such as a second match against Canelo. This represents a distinct benefit for Terence.
