On Thursday evening, the Oklahoma City Thunder welcomed the Boston Celtics for a game pitting two of the basketball league’s top-performing squads against each other.

However, both competing teams faced challenges due to player injuries, with the Thunder notably missing key starting players Jalen Williams and Isaiah Hartenstein.

Similarly, the Celtics played without two significant contributors, specifically Jayson Tatum and Derrick White.

In Williams’ absence, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander assumed primary responsibility for offensive production, contributing 35 points, supplemented by nine assists, six rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.

Chet Holmgren and Ajay Mitchell were the sole additional Thunder players to achieve double-digit scoring, collectively tallying 29 points.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s 35-point effort enabled him to surpass a record previously held by Wilt Chamberlain for the highest number of consecutive contests with 20 or more points (127).

Chamberlain’s historic benchmark had remained unchallenged since the year 1963.

After the conclusion of the match, coach Mark Daigneault commented on Gilgeous-Alexander’s demeanor. He remarked, “He embodies the calmest presence in any space. I’ve expressed this previously. He possesses remarkable composure. Every development in his career, it appears as though he anticipated it, including his ascent as an athlete. My words are insufficient to convey my admiration for him.”

This latest win represented Oklahoma City’s seventh in a row, intensifying their pursuit of the San Antonio Spurs for the top seed position within the Western Conference.

The Spurs suffered a defeat on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets, which extended the Thunder’s advantage to three and a half games over the second-ranked team.

The Thunder are scheduled for a break on both Friday and Saturday, prior to their home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday afternoon.
