David Onama experienced defeat at UFC Vegas 110, and he has released a statement.
Onama stepped into the UFC Apex this past Saturday with intentions of pushing his string of victories to five. In the end, he was defeated by Steve Garcia through a first-round TKO. This marks Onama’s first defeat since 2022.
The “Silent Assassin” turned to his X account to communicate his reaction to the defeat. He seems to be holding up well in spite of the loss.
Not the outcome I wanted tonight. Got caught early, but that’s part of the game. Respect to Steven Garcia and his team. Back to the drawing board. ’ll be back.
Grateful for my team, coaches, and everyone who continues to support me through it all. Every setback is just a setup… pic.twitter.com/LTmbvnO0d3

“Not the outcome I wanted tonight. Got caught early, but that’s part of the game. Respect to Steven Garcia and his team. Back to the drawing board. I’ll be back.
“Grateful for my team, coaches, and everyone who continues to support me through it all. Every setback is just a setup for a stronger comeback.”
This marks the third defeat in Onama’s professional MMA journey. His other losses occurred against Nate Landwehr and Mason Jones, but those were determined by decision. This context makes the swift TKO loss surprising for many fans, and pre-fight betting odds were quite balanced leading up to the UFC Vegas 110 main event.
Prior to Saturday’s contest, Onama held the No. 13 spot in the UFC featherweight rankings. It remains to be observed whether the loss to Garcia will cause a drop in his ranking. The updated rankings are expected to be revealed this week.
Concerning Garcia, this victory extends his winning streak to seven. Garcia has expressed interest in fighting Max Holloway and Josh Emmett. A fight with Holloway, who has transitioned to the lightweight division, seems unlikely in the near future.
A matchup with Emmett might be more plausible. Garcia is ranked No. 12 in the UFC featherweight division, while Emmett is ahead of him at No. 9. What the future holds for Onama is something to follow closely in the weeks and months ahead.
