Derrick Jones Jr. is anticipated to play in Los Angeles.
Jones and the Los Angeles Clippers have come to terms on a three-year, $30 million agreement during the free agency period, as reported by The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania.
This announcement follows the revelation that Paul George would be departing the franchise as a free agent this summer.
While Jones might not entirely fill George’s role, he could assist in alleviating the gap created by his departure. He is coming off a productive season in Dallas where he posted averages of 8.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and one assist per contest, while participating in 23.5 minutes per game.
Jones was a starting player for the Mavericks throughout their Finals campaign and made notable contributions. He demonstrated potential as a consistent scorer both during the regular season and the playoffs, and he will aim to elevate his performance with the Clippers this year.
Los Angeles still has certain decisions to make in free agency this offseason following the acquisition of Jones. The Clippers addressed Kawhi Leonard’s contract during the regular season, securing a three-year extension with him, and they also granted James Harden a two-year, $70 million deal on Sunday.
Los Angeles is said to be exploring potential trade options for Russell Westbrook after he opted into his $4 million player option.
It seems probable that the Clippers will need to add another impactful player to contend for a championship after last year’s team did not advance beyond the first round, so Los Angeles is likely to be active in pursuing trades and free agents over the upcoming weeks.
