Choi ‘Lucid‘ Yong-hyeok has committed to a new agreement with Dplus KIA, prolonging his tenure with the LCK team.
The player, who operates as a jungler and joined the main roster in 2023, will stay with the squad for another year as he gears up for the forthcoming season.
This announcement came only three days after Dplus KIA executed a comeback victory against T1 in the LCK Cup playoffs. The best-of-five series carried considerable importance, offering a spot in the lower-bracket final in Hong Kong and affecting qualification for First Stand.
Lucid consistently performed well throughout the series, earning the MVP title for his reliable contributions in both the team’s wins and defeats.
Fan reception has been largely favorable, with some suggesting that Lucid has already demonstrated he can adequately fill the void left by Kim ‘Canyon‘ Geon-bu, who departed Dplus KIA in 2023. Others speculated if the contract extension might have unfolded differently had it not been for the recent triumph over T1.
“From Foundations to Apex”
In an update shared on social media, Dplus KIA charted Lucid’s development “from foundations to apex,” describing him as “the pulsing core of our jungle” since his time with DK Challengers. Having progressed within the organization, Lucid expressed his profound satisfaction “playing on this team as a pro player,” acknowledging the staff for fostering a “homelike” atmosphere.
During a video message directed at supporters, Lucid emphasized his primary focus on outcomes. He aims to deliver enhanced performances, secure a championship, and continue competing alongside Heo ‘ShowMaker’ Su, with aspirations of claiming “numerous titles jointly.” Professing his inability to envision donning any other uniform, Lucid intends to re-establish his value to fans in the coming year.
Dplus KIA remains in the lower bracket, where they are scheduled to compete against BNK FearX for an opportunity to advance to the LCK Cup final and face Gen.G. These two teams have already clashed in the LCK Cup playoffs, with Gen.G achieving a 3–1 victory.
