The most critical objective for the Los Angeles Dodgers is achieving victory in the World Series for the second consecutive year against either the Toronto Blue Jays or the Seattle Mariners. Looking to the future, the Dodgers, consistent with their recent track record, might be contenders for the most sought-after free agent available. According to a report in the New York Post, the Dodgers are anticipated to make a move for outfielder Kyle Tucker when he becomes a free agent this winter.

Tucker, who is 28 years old, is coming off a successful season with the Chicago Cubs, who acquired him through a four-player trade last December. Over 136 games, he posted an OPS+ of 143, hitting 22 home runs, stealing 25 bases, and accumulating a WAR of 4.5. Tucker could have been considered for the National League MVP award, but a finger injury and subsequent calf strain impacted his performance as the season progressed. Throughout his career, the four-time All-Star has maintained an OPS+ of 140 across eight MLB seasons, with seven of those seasons spent with the Houston Astros.
The Dodgers could benefit from strengthening a corner outfield position, particularly if Teoscar Hernández continues to display indications of declining offensive output. This season, Dodger left fielders, especially Michael Conforto, who had the majority of playing time in that position, combined for a batting average of .229/.317/.385, which is less than ideal production for a position heavily reliant on batting performance. Tucker would undoubtedly represent a significant improvement (he could play left field, or Hernández could transition from right to left), and the Dodgers have the necessary resources and ownership commitment to secure his services, even if the bidding process exceeds $400 million.
Nevertheless, the competition to acquire Tucker’s services is expected to be substantial, as he is likely to be the most highly sought-after free agent in the upcoming offseason.
