While not quite as agonizing as their previous experience, the Los Angeles Dodgers once again witnessed a no-hitter bid dissolve in the ninth inning on Monday.
The Dodgers were on the verge of achieving a combined no-hitter during their 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Tyler Glasnow commenced the game and pitched seven no-hit innings before his removal.
Rockies second baseman Ryan Ritter delivered a double off reliever Tyler Scott at the start of the ninth inning, effectively ending the Dodgers’ combined no-hitter attempt.
Glasnow demonstrated remarkable form for the Dodgers during his seven innings on the mound. He issued a walk in the second inning, which led to Kyle Farmer driving in Jordan Beck via a sacrifice fly, putting Colorado on the scoreboard.
However, the no-hitter remained intact, and Glasnow successfully completed seven innings before being relieved. He accumulated 11 strikeouts and threw 105 pitches before Blake Treinen replaced him in the eighth. Treinen swiftly recorded his three outs, leaving the final three for Scott. Following Ritter’s hit, the Dodgers promptly concluded the inning to secure their two-run victory.

The Dodgers narrowly missed a no-hitter on Saturday as well. Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched a perfect game through 8 ⅔ innings against the Baltimore Orioles, but L.A. subsequently surrendered a three-run lead and suffered a disheartening loss to the Orioles. That would have marked Yamamoto’s inaugural MLB no-hitter, after achieving two in the Nippon Professional Baseball league.
Major League Baseball is still awaiting its first no-hitter of the current season, despite several near misses. The most recent no-hitter occurred on Sept. 4, 2024, when the Chicago Cubs combined to throw a no-no against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The latest solo no-hitter was accomplished by Blake Snell in August 2024.
The last full MLB season without a single no-hitter recorded was 2005.
Glasnow, aged 32, began the night with a 3.41 ERA and 81 strikeouts across 14 games this season. He experienced a significant absence due to right shoulder inflammation but rejoined the team’s rotation on Monday following a minor back injury in recent weeks. This ailment led to his late withdrawal from a weekend start against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Dodgers now possess an 80-64 record following the win, marking their second consecutive victory after a challenging five-game losing streak. They hold a slim one-game advantage over the Padres in the NL West. Conversely, the Rockies stand at 40-104 for the season and possess the worst record in MLB.
