On Wednesday, during the conclusion of qualification rounds for several teams at the Winter Olympics cross-country skiing track, an unforeseen guest made an appearance. As two athletes approached the concluding segment, a canine emerged on the track, pursuing the pair as they completed their race.
The origin of the dog remains unknown, yet it managed to access the competition area directly. Initially jogging alongside the path, the animal became sidetracked by the passing skiers and chose to follow them across the finish line.
The canine seemed affable, approaching one of the athletes once the qualifying heat concluded. Its subsequent fate is not entirely clear, but reports suggest it was escorted off the premises without any trouble.
The official Olympics social media account initially acknowledged the dog’s presence, jokingly stating it deserved ‘every medal’ in a post. Nevertheless, that particular post was subsequently taken down.
Footage of the dog was also broadcast by NBC, which commented that it garnered the loudest applause from the spectators that day.
The dog’s presence caused a disturbance solely during the preliminary rounds, not during the main competition. Ultimately, Sweden secured the top spot in the final event, earning the gold medal, while Switzerland claimed silver and Germany received bronze.
