The organization representing tennis professionals, established with the goal of amplifying player influence and co-created by Djokovic, initiated a program in January providing complimentary assistance from two prominent legal firms.
The allocated number of legal service hours is restricted, and the scope of offerings from the ITIA will also be subject to limitations.
Pro-bono legal aid is already in place for players who receive a positive test result, facilitated by Sport Resolutions, an autonomous entity specializing in conflict resolution.
This support will now be accessible to players immediately upon receiving a positive test, rather than after charges are filed; however, the availability of sustained assistance hinges on securing lawyers willing to provide their services without charge.
Financial support up to $5,000 (£3,730) will be provided for those seeking to utilize a Wada-recognized laboratory for case preparation.
Participants will also have the opportunity to enroll in six sessions at Sporting Chance, the organization focused on mental wellness established to offer support to professional athletes.
“Any individual involved in an anti-doping or anti-corruption investigation should have the chance to defend themselves or offer an explanation, and we acknowledge that this process can bring both financial and emotional burdens,” stated ITIA’s chief executive, Karen Moorhouse.
“No athlete begins playing tennis with any aim other than to participate in the sport.”
“People end up in these situations for many different reasons, and regardless of the circumstances or the outcome of the case, they deserve access to someone to confide in.”
The effectiveness of the program will be evaluated at the close of 2026.
