Draper continues defence against Djokovic

Draper secured the initial set within half an hour, but Cerundolo presented a more formidable challenge in the subsequent set, managing to break Draper’s serve right at the start.

An additional service break put Cerundolo in a position to serve for the set leading 5-4; however, Draper held strong, winning the subsequent three games to claim the match on his initial match point.

Following this victory, Draper is set to encounter the 38-year-old Djokovic, marking their first meeting since Draper captured the opening set against the then-reigning champion during his inaugural Wimbledon appearance in 2021.

“I have observed his career since my youth, and I consider him the paramount athlete in the sport’s history,” Draper stated.

“Facing him means anticipating his mental fortitude, an extremely challenging contest, and exceptionally skillful play. I must prepare myself for such an encounter.

“Any individual involved in or knowledgeable about tennis recognizes the astonishing nature of his past achievements and ongoing performance in the sport.”

Norrie’s and Draper’s triumphs occurred a day after their compatriot, Emma Raducanu, suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of American Amanda Anisimova, securing only two games and exiting the competition in 52 minutes.

Norrie holds the 27th seeding in the male singles bracket, yet he performed beyond that ranking by securing three service breaks on his path to overcoming De Minaur.

His upcoming competitor will be Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata, who defeated the 10th seed from Kazakhstan, Alexander Bublik, over three sets.
