Duarte Defeats Sims Jr. in WBA Eliminator

The Pugilist Post provides up-to-the-minute coverage of Oscar Duarte versus Kenneth Sims Jr., including live results, round-by-round commentary, key moments, fighter entrances, and the scheduled start time for the Duarte versus Sims Jr. event taking place this Saturday evening at the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago, Illinois. High-ranked contenders Duarte and Sims are set to battle in a contest that will determine a challenger for the WBA super lightweight championship, currently held by Gary Antuanne Russell.

Duarte (29-2-1, 23 KOs) is on a three-fight winning streak following a defeat against Ryan Garcia in December of the previous year, a fight in which he showed considerable resilience. Last November, he secured a victory over former two-time title contender Botirzhon Akhmedov and earlier in February, he became the first competitor to defeat Miguel Madueno via stoppage.

Sims (22-2-1, 8 KOs) experienced setbacks in his appearances on the SHOBox program but has maintained an undefeated record since 2018. In August 2024, Sims achieved a victory over Jonathan Romero in his debut under the Golden Boy banner.

Duarte and Sims were initially slated to compete last November; however, an injury prevented Sims from participating, leading to Duarte facing Akhmedov instead. Prior to their anticipated showdown this Saturday, both fighters were on the same card in February, with Duarte defeating Madueno and Sims triumphing over Kendo Castaneda.

The evening will also feature a co-main event showcasing a super lightweight bout between former world titleholders Regis Prograis (29-3, 24 KOs) and Joseph Diaz Jr. (34-37-1, 15 KOs). Prograis is entering the fight after suffering consecutive losses, whereas Diaz has been defeated in six of his last eight matches. Both fighters understand that another loss could significantly impact their future prospects for televised appearances.

The Duarte versus Sims Jr. event will commence at 8 p.m. ET on DAZN, with the main event ring walks anticipated to occur around 11 p.m. ET.
