Elliot Cadeau rejoins Wolverines after allergic reaction

INDIANAPOLIS — Elliot Cadeau, the lead point guard for Michigan, was back with his team for the Final Four and disclosed on Thursday that his previous day’s allergic episode, which necessitated medical treatment, resulted from an unintentional encounter with nuts.

“I simply consumed an item I’m intolerant of,” the third-year student explained from his changing area at Lucas Oil Stadium, two days prior to the Wolverines’ encounter with top-ranked Arizona in the collegiate semifinals.

Head Coach Dusty May confirmed that Cadeau, whose statistics include 10.2 points and 5.8 assists per game, is now “well.”

Cadeau underwent medical attention concurrently with his teammates’ flight to the Final Four. He mentioned that a Michigan employee transported him by car to Indianapolis so he could reunite with the squad before Thursday’s media sessions and subsequent pre-game promotional engagements.

Cadeau characterized the incident as “merely a slight bother for my part.”

“I merely developed some welts, which prompted my visit to the medical facility, purely to avert any worsening complications,” he stated.

On Wednesday, Detroit’s radio broadcaster WWJ 950 shared footage on X depicting a person, draped and seated upright, being moved from Michigan’s athlete training center on a stretcher and into an emergency vehicle. Michigan subsequently verified the individual was Cadeau, who had reported symptoms consistent with an allergic response and was given professional medical oversight as “a precautionary measure.”

“Should this be the most significant challenge we face, then we are truly fortunate,” May remarked on Thursday. “Furthermore, it highlights his importance to his fellow players. They were understandably quite worried, as anyone would be by such a reaction.

“However, I’m simply relieved he’s well. We benefit from excellent medical assistance, and he has rejoined us. The guy is resilient. He will recover completely.”
