The EuroBasket competition in 2025 has reached the stage of the final 16 teams, with numerous NBA players still in contention to be named the top men’s basketball team in Europe. However, there will not be a consecutive champion. The Spanish team, who were victorious in 2022, were eliminated during the group stage of the 2025 contest. The presumed frontrunner prior to the tournament will also not secure the title. Nikola Jokić and the Serbian squad were defeated by the Finnish team in the Round of 16 on Saturday, resulting in a significant surprise.
The elimination rounds, which include the match for third place and the championship game, will take place in Riga, Latvia. The Round of 16 began on Saturday.
EuroBasket 2025 boasts considerable talent. Luka Dončić is representing his native country of Slovenia, while Jokić, a three-time recipient of the NBA MVP award, is leading Serbia. Giannis Antetokounmpo is once again playing for Greece. The promising young French players, Zaccharie Risacher and Bilal Coulibaly, are also worth watching. However, France’s Victor Wembanyama will not be participating in EuroBasket because his NBA season was prematurely ended due to a blood clot in February.

Arrangement
The tournament started with a preliminary group phase, consisting of four groups each containing six teams. This phase, which concluded on Sept. 4, utilized a round-robin format where each team played every other team in its group once. The top four teams from each group have progressed to the elimination rounds.
