The Calgary Flames have finalized an agreement with netminder Dustin Wolf, securing him with a seven-year contract extension valued at $52.5 million, as announced by the organization on Tuesday. The arrangement entails an average yearly compensation of $7.5 million and is slated to commence in the 2026-27 season.

Wolf, currently 24 years old, was preparing to enter the concluding season of a two-year pact he initially signed during the 2024 offseason. Being American-born, the goaltender was poised to become a restricted free agent this coming summer.

“Securing eight more years in this city,” Wolf commented in a released statement. “Now, there’s no longer the distraction of contract discussions; the focus shifts purely to playing. I’m hoping for eight more years devoid of that concern, allowing me to concentrate on hockey, aiding my team in securing victories, and building from there.”

Wolf showcased an impressive performance in the 2024-25 season, amassing a record of 29 wins, 16 losses, and 8 overtime losses. He maintained a 2.64 goals-against-average, a .910 save percentage, and recorded three shutouts across 53 appearances. The Flames’ goaltender was recognized as a finalist in the Calder Trophy competition, awarded to the NHL’s top rookie, receiving 15 first-place votes, ultimately finishing behind Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson.

Wolf’s efforts nearly propelled the Flames to a 41-27-4 record (96 points), positioning them for a Wild Card playoff spot in the Western Conference. However, Calgary was edged out by the St. Louis Blues in a tiebreaker determined by regulation wins.

The Wolf extension highlights a successful offseason for general manager Craig Conroy and the Flames’ management team. The franchise also successfully re-signed defenseman Kevin Bahl, securing him with a six-year contract extension ($5.35 million AAV). Furthermore, forward Matt Coronato also agreed to a seven-year, $6.5 million extension.
