Matt ‘FormaL‘ Piper, a player for OpTic Gaming in Halo, has expressed his thoughts regarding the possibility of Halo competitors transitioning to Call of Duty.
FormaL, who has previously been crowned a Call of Duty world champion, suggests that Halo players should contemplate a move to Activision’s first-person shooter game while the Halo esports community anticipates the release of a new installment in the franchise.

During a recent appearance on The Drop podcast, produced by the North American esports organisation, FormaL delved into the potential for Halo players to explore opportunities in Call of Duty, indicating that numerous organisations are scouting for talent in anticipation of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 season.
This conversation arose following the announcement from two OpTic Gaming Halo players that they would be entering free agency for Black Ops 7, a decision prompted by the Halo Championship Series (HCS) announcement that it would be discontinuing Halo Infinite after the conclusion of the 2025 season.
On August 27th, 2025, Adam ‘Bound’ Gray and Jonathan ‘Renegade’ Willette publicly declared their intentions to pursue competition in Call of Duty, a direct consequence of the HCS’s decision to cease hosting Halo Infinite tournaments as 343 Industries redirects its focus toward the development of the next iteration of the Halo series.
“You guys should give CoD a shot,” FormaL suggested. “What else is there to do? Are you planning to engage in two-on-two matches all year long? You might be surprised to learn how many professional teams in CoD are actively seeking new talent.”
Will Halo Players Switch To Call Of Duty?
While it is evident that organisations are exploring opportunities to enhance their rosters by recruiting Halo players, the exact number of individuals who will make the transition to Call of Duty remains uncertain.
Notable figures such as FormaL and Anthony ‘Shotzzy‘ Cuevas-Castro have previously navigated this transition in earlier seasons, both achieving prominence and securing world championship titles in both Halo and Call of Duty, solidifying their status as well-known figures in the esports scene.
Considering the past accomplishments of Halo players who have successfully transitioned, it will be intriguing to observe which players are able to effectively adapt their skills to a new gaming environment.
