Former Hamilton manager Hynes joins Cadillac in senior F1 role

The Cadillac Formula 1 team has appointed Marc Hynes to the role of chief racing officer.

Hynes, a previous competitive driver, secured the 1999 British F3 championship by a slim margin over Luciano Burti, while Jenson Button, who would later become an F1 world champion, finished in third place.

His achievements were accomplished with the Manor team, for whom he subsequently worked in both Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship, collaborating with Graeme Lowdon, a long-serving principal of Manor (also known as Virgin and Marussia) and currently Cadillac’s team principal.

Hynes and Lowdon later established a business partnership and currently hold joint ownership of the Equals Management firm.

According to a press release from Cadillac, Hynes’s new responsibilities will involve “harmonizing the driver lineup and engineering teams, optimizing procedures, and enhancing cooperation between the technical and sporting divisions to cultivate an effective, competitive, and well-managed team setting”.

The British national will additionally undertake the responsibility of ‘overseeing Cadillac’s driver development initiative’, a program that features reserve driver Zhou Guanyu, who is also affiliated with Equals Management.

Hynes expressed, “Forming a new team in Formula 1 presents a unique undertaking, and I am eager to contribute to establishing the culture, procedures, and performance benchmarks right from the outset.”

He further stated, “Our driver roster is robust and varied, and my primary objective will be to foster the necessary clarity, cohesion, and rigor to enable everyone – both drivers and engineers – to achieve their optimal performance.”

Lowdon commented, “Marc contributes a remarkable blend of competitive driving background, strategic insight, and human resource management skills to our organization. His talent for fostering connections among drivers, engineers, and management will be crucial as we solidify our position on the racing circuit.”

He concluded, “With our inaugural season approaching, securing an individual of Marc’s expertise to lead our racing operations represents a significant advantage for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team.”

Hynes additionally holds a long-standing association with Lewis Hamilton, having assisted in the formation of Hamilton’s Project 44 enterprise between 2015 and 2021, and then rejoined the seven-time world champion as his manager in 2024.

Reports indicate that Hynes and Hamilton have concluded their professional relationship prior to the 47-year-old’s transition to Cadillac.
