Frank Walks Back “True Tottenham Fans” Comment

Ange Postecoglou stated that Spurs followers shouldn’t ridicule their very own avid gamers as he sought to make clear the “real Tottenham enthusiasts” remark he made following the Fulham defeat.

Spurs’ curler coaster 12 months went from awful to worse on Saturday when goals conceded inside a chaotic opening six mins of a 2-1 domestic loss to Fulham resulted in supporters turning on Postecoglou’s group.

Frustration boiled over with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario jeered for a terrible mistake before ironic cheers followed the next time the Italian efficaciously cleared the ball.

Speaking submit-match on Saturday, Postecoglou stated: “I didn’t like how the enthusiasts reacted to that. They booed at him directly after after which 3 or 4 instances whilst he was on the ball. For me that is unacceptable.

“They can’t be real Tottenham enthusiasts. Jeering after [the sport], fair. No hassle, but after we are gambling, we want to be together.”

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s clash at Newcastle, Tottenham boss Postecoglou said: “Whilst I said the ‘not real Spurs fan.’ what I intended by way of that, just to make it clear, was the mocking of one in all their very own gamers. [Vicario] makes a mistake and there may be a bit little bit of jeering after that, as I remember it.

“The next ball he clears and there is like a cheering. You can’t do that. The opponent can do that. You can’t do that as a fan. That’s where I would stand by what I said.

“The jeering during the sport I don’t suppose is helpful, [however] we are all different.”

An inquest has followed after Spurs’ fourth home loss in the Premier League this season, and it emerged that the relationship with the enthusiasts was discussed after a 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea at the begin of November.

A tepid attacking display that contained only three shots in that London derby sparked fury throughout and after the fit.

“We did not have a meeting about the enthusiasts, we had a debrief after the game about the game, as we do all the time, and it was pretty obvious after that game that it was the first time there has been a bit talk about the enthusiasts and the relationship,” Postecoglou stated.

“It is important that we connect with the enthusiasts. It is pretty obvious that faraway from home we visit the away enthusiasts and thank them for their travelling and help.

“There were possibly no longer many [players] who clapped after the [Fulham] recreation, but I still noticed a few.

“Sometimes they can be emotional or whatever, but I would still say ‘clap the fans after the game.’ [however] you don’t have to do the big loop. There is no specific instruction, that is [just] what I advocate.”

Asked if he was confident majority shareholders ENIC would give him time, Postecoglou stated: “Yeah, I’m very confident.

“It seems like they’re good guys, smart humans, realize how to run companies and learning about soccer.

“I suppose when we’re coping with smart humans they can see every successful dynasty and every successful membership has taken time.”
