It appeared that Tyson Fury received what he desired. On Thursday, Fury made it known that a third encounter between himself and Oleksandr Usyk is planned for April 18 at Wembley Stadium in England.
Fury’s statement was released one day after Turki Alalshikh asserted that the former unified heavyweight titleholder would call off his brief departure from the sport.
“‘The Gypsy King’ will be back!” Alalshikh communicated on Wednesday via Instagram. “I spoke with him, and I have his commitment to include him in Riyadh Season in 2026… We have a rabbit we intend to catch!”
After expressing in May that he would remain in retirement, Fury indicated this week that Usyk might potentially draw him out of his recent retirement. Fury’s willingness for a third fight depended on the fight occurring in his native land, alleging he was cheated during their second contest.
“I am not seeking any undue advantages, I simply desire a fair contest and a legitimate outcome, something which I recognize I was denied,” Fury conveyed to Sky Sports. “I believed I was victorious in the second fight by a margin of five rounds. I have viewed it approximately 250 times and regardless of the viewing, I cannot perceive any way in which he was the victor. Nonetheless, they possess the liberty to act as they wish.”
Fury stands at 0-2 in their head-to-head matches. Usyk clinched the title of undisputed heavyweight champion in May 2024 with a victory via split decision. Their December rematch resulted in a unanimous decision in favor of Usyk.
