Following an unsatisfactory showing at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, GamerLegion has sidelined Erik ‘ztr‘ Gustafsson.

This alteration concludes his approximately eighteen-month tenure within the German esports organization’s primary roster.

Gustafsson, the Swedish in-game strategist, became part of GamerLegion in July 2024. He successfully guided the squad to a top 10 position in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) by June 2025. However, after achieving this peak, the team found it challenging to maintain their standing, slipping out of the top 20 in the December rankings.

After reaching the playoffs at IEM Melbourne 2025 and IEM Dallas 2025, GamerLegion had aimed to sustain its progress throughout the latter half of 2025. Nevertheless, several premature eliminations from top-tier competitions, culminating in an early exit from the Budapest Major in Stage 1, concluded a subpar six-month period.

“Throughout the last eighteen months, we have experienced numerous triumphs and challenges collectively, marking the most consecutive playoff qualifications in our history. We extend our gratitude for everything, Erik,” GamerLegion stated on its social media platforms.

The decision to bench ztr represents the second alteration to GamerLegion’s Counter-Strike 2 lineup. Previously, on December 10th, the organization disclosed that Ashley ‘ash’ Battye had resigned from his role as Head Coach, citing personal circumstances.

GamerLegion’s Upcoming Path?

Presently positioned 21st in the VRS, GamerLegion intends to secure a fresh in-game leader to enhance its performance following a disappointing latter half of 2025. As other teams, such as Ninjas in Pyjamas, are also implementing roster adjustments, further modifications are anticipated across various lineups prior to the commencement of the new season.

Recently, speculation emerged concerning 100 Thieves potentially acquiring GamerLegion players. The CEO of the organization, Nicolas Reber, confirmed that discussions with the North American organizations had occurred, though these talks did not involve the transfer of any individual players or the team’s core roster.

As GamerLegion searches for a successor to ztr, it will be intriguing to observe the team’s strategic direction moving into the upcoming year.
