With the clock winding down on Sunday, Dennis Schröder once again guided Germany to victory. Trailing by a single point against Türkiye in the EuroBasket 2025 championship match, Schröder accelerated past Kenan Sipahi and floated a left-handed shot over Alperen Sengun’s extended reach, banking it off the backboard and in with just 1:15 remaining. Approximately sixty seconds later, the Most Valuable Player from the 2023 FIBA World Cup executed a crossover move on Ercan Omani and sank a 16-foot jump shot, extending Germany’s lead to three points. Following Sengun’s missed three-point attempt on the subsequent possession, Schröder drew a foul and secured the 88-83 triumph by converting both free throws.
In recognition of his pivotal plays, Schröder was honored as the EuroBasket 2025 MVP. Prior to the championship game, he had been averaging 20.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.6 assists throughout the tournament. However, he did not score a basket from the field until the latter half of the game. He concluded the contest with 16 points on 5-for-11 shooting, along with 12 assists and three rebounds, benefiting from significant contributions from his teammates. Franz Wagner shouldered the offensive burden for much of the first half, ultimately scoring 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting, while also grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out two assists, and recording two blocks. Tristan da Silva contributed 13 points as a substitute, connecting on 3 of his 4 attempts from beyond the arc. Moreover, the reigning World Cup champions would not have ascended to EuroBasket champions without the exceptional performance of Isaac Bonga, a display that will be remembered in German basketball annals.
Bonga provided Germany with crucial contributions on both ends of the court. The 25-year-old forward led the team with 20 points, shooting 8-for-11 from the field, while also securing five rebounds, distributing three assists, recording a steal, and blocking a shot. He flawlessly converted all four of his three-point attempts and displayed impressive defensive versatility. With under four minutes left in the game, he drained a catch-and-shoot three-pointer, granting Germany a narrow one-point advantage. With less than three minutes remaining, he executed a powerful driving dunk along the baseline, leveling the score.
As a team, Germany collectively shot 14 of 26 from beyond the three-point line. Center Daniel Theis remained scoreless until he connected on a critical three-pointer from a pass by Schröder, giving Germany a one-point lead with less than two minutes left in regulation.
Germany concluded the tournament without a single defeat. This gold medal represents their first EuroBasket title since 1993, despite securing a bronze medal in 2022. Building upon their remarkable performance in 2023 and their participation in the bronze medal match at the 2024 Olympics, this championship solidifies Germany’s position as a prominent force in international basketball. It also enhances Schröder’s already impressive FIBA accomplishments.
Türkiye, who similarly entered the final game undefeated, initiated the contest with a 13-2 scoring burst, but Germany quickly regrouped and held a two-point lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. In the defeat, Sengun amassed 28 points on 11-for-22 shooting, accompanied by three rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Cedi Osman played the entire 40 minutes, contributing 23 points and making 6 of his 9 three-point attempts. With eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Türkiye held a six-point advantage, but struggled to consistently secure defensive stops thereafter. Germany concluded the game on a 22-11 scoring run.
Heading into the game, Türkiye had successfully converted 44.7% of their three-point attempts throughout the tournament. However, apart from Osman, they struggled to find their shooting rhythm on Sunday. The remaining players collectively shot a mere 3 for 16 (18.8%) from beyond the arc. Despite these struggles, Türkiye remained competitive until the very end. Shane Larkin presented challenges for Germany’s defense with his ability to penetrate into the paint, Adem Bona contributed several significant plays in the interior, and Sengun maintained the same influential presence he had demonstrated throughout the tournament.
Schröder, Wagner, and Sengun were all recognized as members of the EuroBasket 2025 All-Star Five, alongside Greece’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Slovenia’s Luka Dončić. Türkiye secured their second EuroBasket medal, marking their first since claiming silver when they hosted the tournament in 2001.
Earlier on Sunday, Greece prevailed over Finland with a 92-89 victory to claim the EuroBasket bronze medal.
