Gervonta Davis has been discharged from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility situated in Miami-Dade following the payment of his bail. The WBA lightweight titleholder, known as Tank Davis, had been taken into custody earlier on Friday, July 11th, due to a domestic violence battery charge concerning an incident involving his former girlfriend. The aforementioned incident occurred on June 15th of the preceding month.
Tank Davis: Release from Custody
Upon Gervonta’s departure from the detention center, accompanied by three corrections officers, he was escorted toward a waiting vehicle. Davis concealed his head using a white t-shirt as he proceeded to the car. He could be seen briefly glancing at the members of the press who were filming his exit. The fact that his face was obscured was of little consequence; his release from the facility was sufficient news in itself.
Roach Rematch: Still Scheduled?
Lamont Roach subsequently posted on his social media channels, affirming that his anticipated rematch with Tank Davis remains scheduled for the upcoming month, specifically on August 16th. Nevertheless, the fight has yet to be formally announced. It is evident that the recent arrest does not contribute positively to the promotion of a second encounter between the two fighters.
The absence of any promotional activity is noteworthy, particularly given the fact that the fight is only a month away and is expected to be offered as a pay-per-view event, mirroring the format of their initial contest last March. The initial bout concluded in a contentious 12-round draw.
Roach had demonstrated superior boxing skills throughout the match, even managing to knock down Davis in the ninth round. In a controversial decision, the referee opted not to classify the event as a knockdown, permitting Tank to proceed to his corner without granting a timeout for him to clear his eyes.
Berto’s Perspective on Davis: A Chance to Learn
“This situation presents a valuable opportunity for learning and growth. He should persevere and strive for self-improvement,” remarked Andre Berto in a conversation with Fight Hub TV, addressing the arrest of Gervonta Davis on Friday and the subsequent domestic violence charge.
“He needs to maintain a positive outlook and stay focused. Managing relationships with individuals with whom you share parental responsibilities can be challenging. He finds himself in a difficult circumstance at this time. That is all I can offer in terms of commentary,” Berto commented regarding Davis’s situation.
