Concerning Thoroughbred Charities of America
Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) came into existence in 1990 with the purpose of accumulating and allocating funds to charitable organizations within the Thoroughbred sector. These organizations are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of Thoroughbreds, both during their racing careers and in their post-racing lives. This is achieved through the provision of assistance to reputable repurposing and retirement entities, as well as by offering support to the individuals who provide care for these horses. This year, TCA has committed over $1 million in grants to 98 recognized charities actively engaged in Thoroughbred retraining, rehoming, and retirement initiatives, as well as backstretch and farm worker services, research endeavors, and equine-assisted therapy programs. Over the past 35 years, TCA has awarded more than $28 million to a network of over 200 charities that effectively meet the established criteria outlined in its annual grant application. Additionally, TCA manages the Horses First Fund, established by LNJ Foxwoods in 2016, to offer aid to Thoroughbreds facing emergency situations. TCA functions as the philanthropic extension of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA).
