Happy Retirement? Jones Hit With New Criminal Charges In New Mexico

Jon Jones is facing new criminal charges.

The newly retired UFC legend was charged on June 17 for leaving the scene of an accident (no great bodily harm or death). It’s a misdemeanor charge, and the incident in question actually happened back on February 24. The charge stems from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jones is scheduled to appear in court for a bond arraignment this Tuesday, June 24.

Here’s the official court records (via MMA Fighting).

The Albuquerque Journal has further information on Jones’ latest vehicular charge. Per their report, Jones allegedly fled the scene of a car crash, leaving behind a woman in the front passenger seat. The passenger was “exhibiting signs of significant intoxication and lacking clothing from the waist down,” and she named Jones as the driver.

The woman then called Jones on the phone. The person who answered “appeared to be heavily intoxicated and made statements implying his capacity to employ lethal force through third parties.” The person who answered refused to identify himself but continued to make “allusions to violence.” Jones was interviewed in person several days later. He claimed it was not him on the phone, and that the woman in question left his home several hours before the accident.

The woman admitted to drinking heavily and consuming mushrooms at the Jones residence. She again named Jones as the last person she remembered driving the vehicle. Between the accident and the next morning, Jones called the woman’s phone 13 times and texted her numerous times as well.

This latest charge adds further evidence to the idea that Jones and vehicles really don’t mix. Back in 2015, Jones was involved in a rather infamous hit-and-run of a pregnant woman with drugs at the scene, but the wormhole goes much deeper. There was also a 2012 DUI incident, a 2016 drag-racing violation, and a 2020 DWI and firearm misuse.

Hopefully Jones has enough money saved up to hire a permanent driver for the rest of his retirement, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
