According to reports on Tuesday, Julian Alvarez expressed his willingness to consider a contract extension with Manchester City and affirmed his commitment to the club.
The Argentinian forward, whose existing agreement with the Premier League champions concludes in the summer of 2028, has recently been associated with a potential transfer to Real Madrid, alongside continuous speculation about a possible move to Serie A.
Alvarez finds himself in a familiar setting this week as Manchester City prepares to clash with Barcelona in a high-profile Champions League match at the Etihad Stadium. Ahead of the encounter, the Argentinian international reiterated his contentment in Manchester.
“The decision to join has been among the best choices I’ve made in my career,” stated the 25-year-old, who transitioned to Manchester City from River Plate in 2022.
“Experiencing a new league, representing a club of Manchester City’s stature, participating in these European competitions, and immersing myself in the culture of English football has significantly contributed to my development as a player.
“I am open to the possibility of extending my stay. Considering our current trajectory and performance level, I believe we are undoubtedly among the top teams in Europe.
“I don’t consider any other club and think, ‘I’d rather be there.’ I feel truly content here. With 30 months remaining on my contract, I anticipate future discussions regarding my tenure.”
Alvarez also characterized the Premier League as “increasingly tactical” this season, attributing it to the heightened emphasis on strategic formations, particularly those implemented by Barcelona.
“Watching the Premier League is perhaps becoming increasingly tactical compared to previous seasons,” he remarked.
“However, that’s the inevitable progression of football. Trends emerge and evolve, and this season reflects that dynamic. Barcelona have capitalized on strategic formations and demonstrate exceptional tactical acumen.
“Naturally, we analyze their strengths, potential threats, and methods to counteract them. The most effective approach is to disrupt their strategic formations and exploit vulnerabilities.”
Alvarez also acknowledged that scoring against Real Madrid brings him “slightly enhanced satisfaction” compared to other clubs.
He has tallied 10 goals in 18 appearances against Los Blancos, including one for Manchester City at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their quarterfinal in 2024.
“Perhaps there’s a subconscious element at play. Considering my time with River Plate, matches against them always held significant importance,” he commented.
“I have numerous acquaintances who support Real Madrid and others who are fans of River Plate. There’s a palpable atmosphere surrounding it.
“With Manchester City, the dynamic is slightly different due to infrequent encounters. However, our quarterfinal clash a couple of years ago remains a significant victory for us.
“From my perspective, it might evoke slightly more joy, but ultimately, the objective remains securing victory in the match.”
