The squad managed by Arne Slot will face Burnley at Turf Moor the upcoming Sunday, preceding a Champions League battle against Atletico Madrid at Anfield three days afterward.
It’s possible Liverpool will have to proceed without Alexander Isak for these contests, at least initially, given the Swedish forward’s absence from the starting lineup against Slovakia.
Isak, age 25, recently finalized a record-breaking transfer to Liverpool from Newcastle United at the close of the trading period, marking the conclusion of a prolonged negotiation spanning several weeks.
Alexander Isak Absent in Sweden Qualifier
The Swedish national team player did not join Newcastle for their pre-season tour, missing all of their exhibition matches and was not named in the Magpies’ squad for the initial three matches of the season.
Consequently, it is believed that the athlete is lacking in match conditioning.
Liverpool supporters had anticipated seeing their new centre-forward during this week’s international matches, but Isak did not participate in the match against Slovakia.
Instead, Viktor Gyokeres, recently signed by Arsenal, and Anthony Elanga, a winger from Newcastle, were in the starting lineup up front, with the latter scoring in a 2-2 draw.
“My objective is to participate after the international matches,” Isak stated in his initial formal interview with Liverpool’s official media outlet.
“Nonetheless, I experienced a difficult summer with limited playtime and restricted training. Therefore, it’s essential to assess my current state and readiness before determining my contribution. However, I’m certainly eager to begin playing as soon as possible.”
Sweden’s second match of the September international series is an away game against Kosovo on Monday night, where Isak might make a brief appearance as a substitute.
Isak’s potential debut may occur later this month during Liverpool’s home match against Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
