Both the Italian and Spanish teams made it to the final competition stage, even with the absence of some important team members, including the absence of Carlos Alcaraz in addition to Jannik Sinner which kept enthusiasts from observing a total of seven match instances between the world’s leading male competitors for the year 2025.
However, because Italian player number two, Lorenzo Musetti, was also not there, Cobolli along with Berrettini took the chance to shine, scoring three victories out of three individual matches apiece throughout the week.
The supporters chanted Cobolli’s name as he maintained a calm attitude to deliver his comeback victory by winning every point, after he successfully made the initial breakthrough in the eleventh game of a demanding final set.
That was indeed an impressive feat, since he had stated that he had accomplished a “dream” by getting Italy into the Sunday event on his home field.
Contrary to the events that took place on Friday evening, at the moment when Cobolli removed his shirt in celebration of “one of the greatest days” of his existence, the world number 22 suffered the effects of a sluggish beginning as he gave up a lopsided initial set.
However, Cobolli initiated an essential and rapid response immediately after falling behind at the beginning of the second set.
Cobolli’s luck seemed to turn around after a pause in the game lasting nine minutes, because someone in the audience was not feeling well. When the game continued, and with Munar facing a break point, the Italian managed to float a volley that made a lucky touch with the net cord and put the set back on equal footing.
Even though he was irritatingly prevented from achieving four set points on his opponent’s serve, Cobolli assumed control of a crucial tie-break to compel the decider – where he once again came through.
