The scheduled November 14th exhibition boxing match featuring Jake Paul against Gervonta Davis has been formally called off for their planned 10-round bout at the Kaseya Center, situated in Miami, Florida. News regarding the cancellation had already surfaced earlier in the week, but the cancellation is now official. Originally, the event was slated to be broadcast via Netflix.
Potential Substitute Contestants Approached
- Francis Ngannou
- Nate Diaz
- Andre Ward
- Ryan Garcia
Among the listed contenders, Diaz and Ward appear to be the more practical options. Considering Diaz’s significant popularity in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) sphere, he would represent a more desirable adversary for Jake. In the past, Jake secured a victory over Diaz via a 10-round unanimous decision held on August 5, 2023, at the American Airlines Center located in Dallas, Texas. During the fifth round, Paul successfully knocked down Diaz with a left hook. The judges’ scores were 97-92, 98-91, and 98-91. Presently, Diaz is 40 years of age. Although this is relatively old for boxing, it is comparatively young when assessed against the 58-year-old Mike Tyson who Jake fought on November 15, 2024.
Boxing Promoter Oscar De La Hoya has recently stated that Ryan Garcia is not able to fight Jake Paul, this is because of his contractual agreement with Golden Boy and his matches on DAZN. Therefore, he would not be able to confront Jake on Netflix. This would have been a good selection for Jake.
Reports from ESPN indicate that Ngannou, the former UFC champion, has turned down the proposition to stand in as Jake Paul’s substitute opponent.
Statement from Most Valuable Promotions
“Our dedicated personnel have collaborated intimately with all involved parties to responsibly navigate this evolving situation,” Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, remarked. “Although we will not be proceeding with this particular event, our overarching plan remains intact for Jake Paul to spearhead a Netflix event in the year 2025. Comprehensive specifics pertaining to a revised date, location, Jake’s chosen opponent, as well as supplementary bouts, will be communicated as soon as they reach finalization. Our gratitude extends to Netflix, the Kaseya Center, and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for their invaluable support.”
Social media updates suggest that the undercard fights may be rescheduled to December 14th in Miami. This information points to a possible new date for Jake’s exhibition match, contingent upon securing a suitable opponent.
