The Washington Commanders’ signal-caller, Jayden Daniels (knee), engaged in a limited capacity during Wednesday’s training session, and whether he will participate in Sunday’s contest against the Atlanta Falcons remains to be observed. Nevertheless, Daniels expressed a strong desire to be deemed fit for the upcoming game.
During the Week 2 match versus the Green Bay Packers, Daniels sustained a knee ailment, resulting in his absence from last week’s triumph over the Las Vegas Raiders. After Wednesday’s practice, Daniels communicated to the media that he is physically sound but acknowledges that the decision regarding his participation on Sunday rests with the medical staff.
“The physicians will make the determination,” Daniels conveyed. “It’s not my prerogative. … I’m feeling well.”
In response to inquiries concerning the degree of running and agility drills he has performed on the injured knee, Daniels indicated he would be at ease executing both actions during the game.
“Sufficiently to feel assured if I’m active on Sunday,” Daniels asserted. “As I mentioned, the verdict isn’t mine.”

Daniels managed to complete the entirety of the game against the Packers, although it was a demanding contest. The Washington quarterback was subjected to four sacks and absorbed numerous additional hits as the Green Bay defense asserted dominance. Daniels disclosed that he “wasn’t cognizant” of the knee injury at the time, yet he was resolute in not avoiding contact regardless.
“I’m an athlete first and foremost,” Daniels stated. “Inevitably, contact will occur. It wasn’t impeding me from continuing to play and conclude the game, so I remained on the field and completed it.”
Daniels’ status remained uncertain throughout the practice week leading up to the Raiders game, until Commanders head coach Dan Quinn imparted the information to him. Daniels chose not to divulge the specifics of their discussion, but the second-year quarterback suggested that he was dissatisfied.
“I’ll maintain discretion regarding that interaction,” Daniels affirmed. “It wasn’t entirely agreeable; I wasn’t necessarily inclined to sit out.”
Backup Marcus Mariota commenced the game in Daniels’ stead and performed admirably. Mariota concluded the day with 247 cumulative yards and two total touchdowns in a 41-24 victory.
