LANDOVER, Md. — The Washington football team’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels, sustained a noteworthy injury to his left elbow. The incident occurred with under eight minutes left in the Week 9 “Sunday Night Football” contest, a home game against the Seattle Seahawks. At that juncture, the Seahawks held a commanding 38-1 lead, eventually winning 38-14 after establishing control early in the match.
Daniels was attempting to run towards the right boundary when he was brought down by Seattle’s linebacker, Drake Thomas. During the fall, Daniels instinctively extended his left arm to break his fall. However, upon impact with the ground, his left elbow seemed to bend at an irregular angle.
The Washington team’s medical personnel quickly attended to Daniels on the field, immobilizing his left elbow and arm. The team’s key player then walked off the playing area, supported by medical staff, and entered the tunnel.
This season has presented difficulties for Daniels, now in his second year. He previously sat out two games due to an ankle injury sustained in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers. He also missed Washington’s Week 8 game due to a hamstring injury suffered in the preceding game versus the Dallas Cowboys.
Injuries have significantly impacted the Washington team throughout the current season. Following a successful 12-5 season in 2024, during which Daniels was named Offensive Rookie of the Year, Washington’s record stood at 3-6 after Sunday night’s game. Daniels completed 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards and threw an interception. He also rushed 10 times for 51 yards, scoring a touchdown.
Marcus Mariota, who had started in all three games Daniels had previously missed earlier in the year, came in to replace Daniels and guided a touchdown-scoring drive. The Washington team’s record is 1-2 in games started by Mariota this season.
