Jayden Reed, who caught the most passes for the Green Bay Packers during the previous season, did not participate in the team’s initial exhibition matchup on Saturday, a contest they lost to the New York Jets by a score of 30-10.
While Reed was seen wearing a protective boot on his foot before the game at Lambeau Field, head coach Matt LaFleur expressed optimism that the prominent receiver would be ready to play when the Packers start their regular season at home against the Detroit Lions on September 7.
LeFleur indicated that the boot was not related to the toe problem Reed had been managing since the beginning of training camp. According to information shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, an unnamed source revealed that Reed is currently suffering from a sprained foot, which has his status listed as “day-to-day.” LeFleur stated that he is “hopeful” Reed will be able to return for the opening game of the season.
Reed also gave an interview where he discussed the injury as much as he felt comfortable doing.
“Because I don’t want to provide any incorrect information, I’m not going to be the one to specify,” Reed stated before being pressed further on the subject. “Essentially, I just made an awkward movement with my foot, and it’s a bit tender.”
Reed, who was chosen by the Packers in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft after playing college football at Michigan State, achieved a team-leading 55 catches from 75 targets, resulting in 857 receiving yards in the previous season. He scored six touchdowns through the air, ranking second on the team in that category, only surpassed by tight end Tucker Kraft.
Following the game on Saturday, LeFleur commented, “Anytime you observe a player wearing a boot, it naturally raises concerns.”
