Jerry Jones on Packers Fans & Micah Parsons: “No Surprise”

Following the Green Bay Packers’ 27-18 victory against the Washington Commanders on Thursday evening, Packers supporters expressed their appreciation by chanting “thank you, Jerry” while standout pass rusher, acquired only recently, offered commentary on the Amazon postgame show.

“Jerry” heard the appreciation.

“Indeed,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones commented, “given their current performance, given Green Bay’s standard of play, I fully support their enjoyment and freedom to chant whatever they wish.”

Jones was participating in his regular weekly segment on 105.3 The Fan in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Just before the start of the season, Jones and the Cowboys sent Parsons to the Packers in exchange for two future first-round selections and defensive lineman Kenny Clark.

He drew parallels between the Parsons transaction and the well-known 1989 Herschel Walker trade, a comparison he previously made during the trade’s announcement.

“Opting to trade a top-tier player, it shouldn’t shock anyone that we’d see this sort of reaction from the other team’s supporters, their fan base, or even parts of our own,” Jones stated. “I anticipated this almost from the moment I arrived at training camp. I knew that if I decided to make this deal, it would bring this kind of response.”

The Packers improved to 2-0 on Thursday, securing impressive wins over the Commanders and Detroit Lions, both of whom competed in the NFC playoffs’ final stages last season. Parsons has quickly demonstrated his All-Pro caliber, creating opportunities for other Green Bay defenders and elevating the overall performance of the defensive unit.

The Cowboys, for their part, came close to defeating the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on the road in Week 1, and their rushing defense against Saquon Barkley showed promise, particularly after the game resumed following a significant lightning delay.

The Eagles lost defensive tackle Jalen Carter before the start of the game when he spat in the direction of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Jones had thoughts on that incident, too.

“My thought was, ‘Perhaps there’s a balancing force at work. We’ve given up Micah; they’re letting us be without him,'” Jones remarked.

The Cowboys will face the Packers in Week 4 on Sunday Night Football. There should be plenty to discuss, for both the fans and Jerry Jones.
